How to Forget the Wireless Network

Sometimes, forgetting the wireless network and trying to reconnect to it afterwards can help. This is can be helpful, for example if people changed access points or routers, and the computer detects the same network coming from a different device.

To forget the network in Windows 11:

  1. Right-click on the Start button (Windows logo, usually at the bottom-left of the screen)
  2. In the popup that appears, click Settings
  3. On the left-hand side of the window that appears, click Network & Internet
  4. In the middle, click Wi-Fi
  5. Then click Manage known networks
  6. For each wireless network in the list, click on the Forget button
    • Note: there may be some networks that are enforced by the organization and cannot be forgotten— just leave those

To forget the network in Windows 10:

  1. Click on the Start button (Windows logo, usually at the bottom-left of the screen)
  2. Click the Gear icon on the left (Settings)
  3. Click Network & Internet
  4. On the left, click Wi-Fi
  5. Toward the middle, click Manage known networks
  6. For each wireless network in the list, click on it and click the Forget button
    • Note: there may be some networks that are enforced by the organization and cannot be forgotten— just leave those

To forget the network in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8:

  1. Click on the Start button (Windows logo, usually at the bottom-left of the screen)
  2. Click the Gear icon in the start menu— if you don't see this, click the magnifying glass at the top-right corner and type PC Settings in the search box and then click on the search result that says PC Settings with the purple square and white gear icon
  3. Click Network
  4. Click Connections on the left
  5. Toward the middle, click Manage known networks (it's under the Wi-Fi section)
  6. For each wireless network in the list, click on it and click the Forget button
    • Note: there may be some networks that are enforced by the organization and cannot be forgotten— just leave those

To forget the network in Windows 7:

  1. Type Network and Sharing Center in the search box at the bottom and then click on the search result at the top
  2. On the left-hand side, click the Manage wireless networks link
  3. For each wireless network in the list, click on it and click the Remove button toward the top
    • Note: there may be some networks that are enforced by the organization and cannot be forgotten— just leave those
